I’ve been having a great time doing Outdoor Porch Portraits! I connected with the amazing Miranda Aisling who runs the Miranda’s Hearth art community, and she put my in touch with some folks on the North Shore. I planned a day trip to Salem to photograph Michelle, Tom, and their baby Charley, who’s only a couple months old! Charley was a surprisingly good model, and we even got some little smiles out of her! I also like to get some photos of the grown-ups in my shoots, so they have some nice photos for profile pics. I like to get individual photos of any member of the family who’s comfortable with it, so they get a chance to feel special!
It’s important to me to make the most of each porch portrait session, and it can be tricky with limited time. For my usual 1-1.5 hour sessions, I can take families to lots of different locations, but for mini-sessions, I have to work with the location I have. With Michelle and Tom, I started in their nice backyard and moved to the front porch. Lots of families like to get photos by their front door to capture the memories, but it doesn’t always make for a colorful background, so I like to mix it up! There were a couple old trees across the street, which added the lush green summer feel I was looking for.
I’m still offering mini outdoor sessions! It’s a sliding scale of $75-$100, and I donate a portion of what I make from each shoot to someone through MAMAS (Mutual Aid Medford And Somerville) who needs support due to Covid. Get in touch if you’re interested in setting up a shoot!
